Ceramics from Picasso to the present day

This Fall, the Galerie de la Béraudière is delighted to present an exhibition dedicated to ceramics, showcasing a vast panorama of contemporary works as well as an exceptional selection of masterpieces of modern art.

One of the highlights of the exhibition is a group of ceramics by Pablo Picasso, testifying to the Spanish master's extraordinary creativity. Picasso discovered this medium in 1946, at the age of 65, during a visit to the Madoura studio in Vallauris, in the south of France. Quickly captivated by the possibilities offered by ceramics, he turned it into a privileged space of expression for his art.

Driven by an insatiable curiosity and a constant desire to push back artistic boundaries, Picasso transformed this practice, hitherto perceived as a craft, into a veritable field of innovation, influencing generations of artists to revisit the medium with fresh eyes. His bold, creative ceramics reveal a singular blend of influences, drawing on mythology, African art and Mediterranean culture.

We will also have the privilege of presenting a selection of works by Lucio Fontana. The Italian master, active since the 1930s, produced a number of ceramic series, some of which are now considered masterpieces of twentieth-century art. These creations reflect his aspiration to transcend the limits of the flat surface, a fundamental concept in all his work. Often abstract, his ceramics incorporate organic forms and geometric patterns, distinguished by a dynamic use of space and light, in perfect harmony with the principles of Spatialism.

Finally, the exhibition offers a broad panorama of international contemporary artists, whose works will illustrate the diversity and vitality of contemporary ceramics. Here are the creators you will be able to (re)discover at the gallery: Françoise Carrasco, Claude Champy, Nani Champy Schott, Fabienne Claesen, Daphne Corregan, Robert Deblander, Bernard Dejonghe, Saraï Delfendahl, Christine Fabre, Jean-François Fouilhoux, Haguiko, King Houndekpinkou, Anaïs Lelièvre, Wenqi Liu, Mia Llauder, Marlène Mocquet, Brigitte Penicaud, Bénédicte Pétrement, Andoche Praudel, Sterling Ruby, Joan Serra, Jeff Shapiro, Jean-Pierre Viot, and Sandra Zeenni.

This exhibition is organised with the support of Galerie Capazza, Galerie Scène Ouverte, Galerie Jean-François Cazeau, Galerie Vanhoenacker and Dr. Lennart Booij.

From Rendez-Vous Brussels Art Week to Ceramic Brussels, ceramics will be in the spotlight at the Galerie de la Béraudière!
